Three Love Stories

Two Weddings and a Funeral from 19th and early 20th century

In a Union Chapel wedding in 1881, "unaffected and rural in its appointments", Margaret Cabe and Charlie Sanders, Lulu Sander's parents-in-law, married following a long courtship.  Maggie's "heart relented" only after Charlie was "gored and trampled by an angry bull" and brought to her father's home to recuperate.
Another chapel wedding, in 1888, of Kitty Mostellar's grandparents, Grace Beach and George Lester, was memorialized in a poem believed to have been written by Grace's father, Henry, who wrote forn the Marietta Journal.

The third love story is that of Robert and Rebecca Nesbitt. Col. Nesbitt fought in the siege of Atlanta and after the end of the Civil War. went to Madison in a 'Cold Mountain"-like trek to rejoin his betrothed. They married the next day.  After 50 year of marriage, Col.Nesbitt died in 1913.  His funeral, like his wedding, was held in the Union Chapel.
